Farmers were enthusiastic and keen to soak up as much knowledge as possible to set themselves and their teams up for the calving season.
The events focused on providing practical, skills-based training for the whole farm team. With multiple sessions held throughout the day, farmers selected their own programme to match their experience level. The sessions ranged from calving preparation, calving cows and health and wellbeing, to team management, colostrum research and bobby calf care.
Farmers were keen to voice their commitment to animal welfare and were supportive of new resources to help with the management of bobby calves on-farm.
Valuable group discussions took place, with farmers sharing their ideas and solutions to help provide the best care for calves.
The take-home notes from CalvingSmart are available to download on this page. Other resources, including the Fit for transport poster and Bobby calf collection sign, can be found here.
