Liner Ready Reckoner
It is important that liners are replaced after 2,500 milkings (5,000 for silicone liners). Milking cows with worn liners affect liner pulsation, which can lead to mastitis and slower milkings.
These Ready Reckoners help you work out how many days, or months, between liner changes.
Choose the Reckoner which best suits you:
Days Version: Liner change given in days, and months, between changes.
Rows Version: Liner change given in months, relating to rounds or rows per milking.
Mastitis Investigation Kit
The SmartSAMM Mastitis Investigation Kit (the Kit) provides a resource that professional advisors can use to gather information during a full mastitis investigation.
The Kit contains checklist and recording sheets for use during farm visits as well as the Investigation Master Sheet to help collate, interpret and prioritise information, and develop a workable plan for the farm.
The Kit consists of:
Section A: Investigation Master Sheet: To coordinate the investigation and formulate a plan of action
Sections B to M: The 12 recording sheets to gather and interpret relevant information.

Note: A new Kit is recommended for each investigation. In its current format, it needs to be printed and completed by hand.
For best results, print to A4 paper, doublesided, or to A3 paper, in booklet format.
DairyNZ acknowledges the Dairy Australia Countdown Programme for the original source material for the Kit, which is based on the Countdown Mastitis Investigation Pack.
Field Evaluation of In-Line AMD systems
- DairyNZ has been developing protocols for evaluating in-line automated mastitis detection (AMD) systems. Historically little objective information has been available for evaluating performance of in-line automated mastitis detection (AMD) systems on New Zealand farms.
- In 2012/13 field studies were conducted based on these protocols. Two documents below are the outcome of this work. These are provided to help farmers and industry professionals better understand how to evaluate the performance information supplied by technology providers.
