Erin Hutchinson started as a consulting officer in September 2015.
Erin grew up in the sheep and beef farming hill country of the Tararua district and worked as a casual shepherd, a trainee livestock buyer and cadet journalist before knuckling down and completing a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in geography at Massey University.
After graduating she dipped her toes in the world of agricultural research as a farm technician on the Massey University farms before trying her hand at an office job writing about sheep and beef farmers for farm management magazine, Country-Wide.
Farming soon called once more and Erin took on the role of senior farm manager for the Massey University campus farms, overseeing three research dairy farms and the sheep/beef/deer/dairy support block of Keebles. Commercial dairy farm management followed with stints in South Wairarapa and Manawatu. A desire to complete further study saw Erin temporarily hang up her overalls in 2012 when she started studying towards a Masters of Management (Agribusiness) at Massey via distance learning, while working initially as a writer for the NZ Dairy Exporter magazine but ultimately ending up as the editor. Finishing her qualification this year, Erin is looking forward to getting out and about in her new role and maybe getting to pull on her overalls once more!
