Consents have now closed. If you still require consent and have not yet applied, please contact Waikato Regional Council.
If you have questions about the status of an application you have launched, contact the Waikato Regional Council on 0800 800 402 or visit www.waikatoregion.govt.nz/application-processing.
What does consent depend on?
Whether or not you need to apply for resource consent and the nature of your application will depend on:
- The volume of water you are taking.
- The use of that water (i.e. milk cooling and dairy shed wash down, or other purposes such as irrigation).
- The source of water - ground (i.e. bore) or surface (i.e. stream, river, creek, drain, pond or lake).
- For surface water takes, the allocation status of the waterbody (i.e. under, at or over-allocated).
How much water were you taking at 15 October 2008?
In the absence of metered records, the Council will use a default calculation of 70 litres per cow, per day to determine how much water you were using on 15 October 2008.
For some farmers this may not be enough water to operate. If you are in this situation, you will want to measure your water use to include in your consent application.
DairyNZ pilot study: Measuring peak water use in the farm dairy
DairyNZ is undertaking a pilot study to help farmers work out how much water they are currently taking and using for milk cooling and dairy shed wash down.
Tools and resources (i.e. what type, where to put them, recording and reporting) will be developed through this project to help you replicate this study.
Information you collect from doing this will help you with your resource consent application.
