Market Focused - An Environmental Management System for New Zealand Dairy Farmers

Publication Date: 2005

Abstract: The dairy industry has been a major contributor to New Zealand, both economically and socially. The number of dairy cattle and productivity of dairy farms have increased markedly over the last decade and, as with all human activities, the industry has impacted on the environment. There have been significant concerns regarding surface and groundwater impacts. Water availability and security of supply are potentially constraining further growth, and climate change and greenhouse gases are a growing focus of concern. It is important that dairy farmers and the industry as a whole respond proactively to these concerns.
