Working with Farmers

DairyNZ have been building on and updating our existing collection of nutrient budgeting tools and resources to help farmers better manage nutrient application and retention on pasture.

As a result of a dairy-fertiliser industry partnership, figures from three major fertiliser companies show that approximately 97% of New Zealand dairy farmers now have a nutrient budget in place.

Fonterra Dairying and Clean Streams Accord targets of excluding dairy cattle from 50% of streams, rivers, lakes, and the provision of bridges or culverts over 50% of regular crossing points were met and exceeded for 2007.

In 2006/07, almost 50 events focusing on nutrient management and more than 20 field days promoting environmental messages to farmers were held across the country in the last year.
