Key accomplishments

  • Industry: Conducting farm systems research on once-a-day milking and extending the findings to farmers through national roadshows and the OAD milking conference. Establishment of the monitor farm project in Southland to provide pasture growth and quality information for farmers in the region. Developing FarmFacts and nutrition guidelines on once-a-day milking and the interaction between pastures and supplements. Numerous roadshow presentations, industry articles and technical contributions on supplementary feeding and once-a-day milking.
  • Science: Leading DairyNZ’s research activities in the South Island and strengthening relationships with AgResearch, Crop and Food and Lincoln University.
  • Awards: Senior Scholar 1983, Skellerup Post-graduate scholarship 1990; DRDC Post-doctoral fellowship 1995.
