An advocate of low-cost dairying and ensuring that dairy farm systems are sustainable.
Key accomplishments
- Industry: Focusing on the underlying principles of efficient farm management. Attended numerous field days, written industry articles on farm management. Senior author of ‘Condition Scoring Made Easy’ booklet distributed to all NZ dairy farmers (2004). Author of the booklet ‘Profitable Dairying’ which was distributed through the Dairyman magazine to all NZ dairy farmers (1997).
- Science: Managed Dexcel Holstein-Friesian strain trial which has made a major contribution to understanding the differences between strains. Currently project manager for the Feed Conversion Efficiency Project which started in 2007.
- International: Invited to present papers at seminars and conferences in Argentina (3), Uruguay, Mexico and Brazil.
