Research engineer/post-harvest technologist, Lincoln Ventures Ltd (1990-2000)
Lincoln Ventures is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lincoln University. The Supply Chain Systems group conducts PGSF research and consultancy in perishable product supply chains and precision agriculture. Its focus is on providing cost-effective data capture systems and intuitive management information packages for use throughout the supply chain, from growing systems to retail. Key projects:
- Force/temperature measurement and quality prediction in on-orchard, export and retail systems – PGSF, Zespri, ENZA contracts
- A novel palletised system for temperature and atmosphere control in the transportation of fresh produce and chilled meat – TBG commercial project
Engineering technician, NZAEI & MAF Agricultural Engineering Section (1981-1990)
This role supported three national specialists in Rural Structures and Soil & Water Engineering who led the development of knowledge and design solutions implemented by regionally-based agricultural engineers. Key projects were:
- Development of innovative crop support and wind protection structures
- NZ Code of Practice for the design of rural structures
- Development of the ‘Master Fencer’ Certificate training manual
