Dairy Industry Guidelines for Developing RMA Policy
Federated Farmers, DairyNZ and Fonterra have come together to produce this new tool - “Dairy Industry Guidelines for Developing RMA
Policy” - that helps demystify the RMA (Resource Management Act) policy development process for dairy farmers.
The Guidelines were developed in consultation with dairy farmers, for dairy farmers in conjunction with our three organisations, and is an ideal resource for farmers who are currently involved (or want to become involved) in the development of RMA policy in their region.
The tool combines easy-to-understand explanations about RMA policy development processes with checklists and worksheets that help you develop your own submissions.
We are sure you will agree that farmers, more than anyone, understand the importance of protecting their land and their livelihood for the next generation. Your input into the RMA process will ensure new policies strike the right balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability.
The aim of this tool is to make it easier for you to get involved in the early stages of RMA policy development. But before you do so, you need to improve your understanding of the key RMA issues that affect dairy farmers in order to participate more effectively. This new tool will help develop your understanding.
Through the use of this tool, Federated Farmers, DairyNZ and Fonterra all believe the dairy industry can achieve better coordination across the whole industry spectrum – from farmers working at a grassroots level, through to dairy industry leaders and Government stakeholders.
