About the Strategy
As you are fully aware, the New Zealand dairy industry is under pressure.
Over the next decade we will face major challenges, including pressure on farm profitability, international threats to the industry’s competitiveness, environmental demands, access to skilled labour and economic stresses.
Over the past 14 months, dairy industry organisations listened extensively to what dairy farmers have said about the ways in which we can collectively deal to these issues and we’ve responded by developing the Strategy for New Zealand Dairy Farming.
For the first time in our industry’s history, key dairy organisations have come together to develop a plan to meet these challenges head-on.
Not only do we have a solid Strategy for tackling the issues, we are also committed to an industry partnership approach to implement the action plan.
The Strategy details how the industry will work collaboratively to solve these major issues by focusing on five outcomes:
- Increasing on-farm profitability
- Achieving a strong industry-Government partnership
- Ensuring an internationally competitive milk supply
- Enhancing the industry’s reputation locally and globally
- Attracting talented, skilled people into the industry
The dairy industry looks forward to helping you, our dairy farmers, achieve these results. And we commit to reporting our progress as we action the Strategy over the next 10 years.
