DairyNZ’s Research Team is made up of world-class scientists, and encompasses Animal Science, Animal Health and Welfare, and Feed and Farm Systems research. DairyNZ’s research is focussed on earning greater market returns for farmers, through increasing productivity through forage production, utilisation, better animals and efficient systems, with a lower environmental footprint. |
|
Research is largely funded by the New Zealand Dairy Farmers Levy, however, every opportunity is sought to maximise investments by applying for additional funds from such organisations as The Sustainable Farming Fund (SFF), and Ministry of Science and Innovation (MSI), and to collaborate with international partners to maximise the research benefits to New Zealand farmers.
This budget is used to fund research in lactation, reproduction, nutrition, animal health and welfare, productivity x environment, feed production and utilisation, automation and IT plus farm systems modelling.
The DairyNZ Research Team encompasses approximately 100 staff, including scientists, technicians, and administrators. Staff are distributed throughout the country, mirroring the spread of dairy farming in New Zealand.
