We all know on-farm environmental issues can be complex and often difficult to understand. Nevertheless, DairyNZ has found most farmers are proactive when it comes to managing the impact of their farming operation on the environment.

The problem arises when you either don't realise you have an environmental issue, or you have an issue but don't know how to resolve it. This is where the Farm Enviro Walk can help.

The Farm Enviro Walk is the first practical tool available to dairy farmers that can help you understand what environmental issues you may have. It then points you toward experts who can help you find solutions and investigate potential opportunities.

DairyNZ has designed the Farm Enviro Walk in such a way to ensure it can make a significant impact on environmental issues in the dairy industry when farmers use the information gained. There's a self-assessment checklist you can use to walk your farm to assess potential issues and problems. There is a Notebook you can use to write notes about steps you can take to address any issues you find. And, finally, we've designed a comprehensive Technical Support Manual that provides in-depth information about effluent, nutrient and land management issues.

Development of the Farm Enviro Walk is part of a significant programme of work supported by an investment of $5.1 million a year for the next three years, which is paid from the dairy industry good levy.
