Animals: InCalf Farmer Action
Group Events

The InCalf Farmer Action Group programme is not like a conventional farmer training course. It is an innovative programme comprising a series of four modules designed to support farmers as they progress through each of the four phases of a year's herd fertility management on their farm - calving, mating, mid-late lactation and the dry period.

In each module, farmers firstly meet to 'prepare' - focusing on what they can do to improve their own herd's reproductive performance in this phase, and developing their own farm action plans using the InCalf resources and tools. Farmers then progress their action plans back on farm before meeting again weeks later to 'review' what happened.

The programme suits farmers with seasonal/split and year-round calving systems. For year-round calving farmers, the focus is on managing individual cows within the herd and the timing of the four modules is flexible. The modules are strategically timed to coincide with the stage in the yearly fertility cycle of the participants' pre-dominant calving group. The example of an InCalf Farmer Action Group illustrated below starts at the Mating module but a Farmer Action Group can start at any of the four modules.
