Nurse new pasture through the winter
New pastures must be nurtured - management in the first year is critical:
- Fertiliser and nitrogen - high performing pastures need more inputs
- First grazings needs to be light and before shading occurs (ideally use young stock)
- Spray for weeds to reduce competition - it is worthwhile.
Poor management can undo all the good of selecting the right endophyte, cultivar and establishment. Start to identify the paddocks for pasture renewal next year, especially if going to crop first.
