Environment

  • Maintain any riparian margins on your property and spray weeds. Replant if required. Check electric fences are operating
  • Discuss with your effluent pond contractor about emptying effluent ponds (oxidation or holding) before winter. Outline in writing what is required and have both parties sign-off on it
  • Review your water use around the farm dairy and investigate ways to minimise water use. See www.smartwateruse.co.nz and DairyNZ Farmfact: How much water am I adding to my effluent (6-2)
  • Have a farm team meeting to review your effluent system to discuss ways to improve monitoring, management and maintenance
  • Do any maintenance necessary on your effluent system (irrigators, ponds, pumps etc). Work through your regional compliance checklist to highlight any areas that may need attention available at www.dairynz.co.nz/compliancetoolkit.
