Evaluation and Adoption of the InCalf Programme in Northland

The purpose of the project is to establish an effective network of InCalf advisers and trainers in Northland and utilise their services to provide support one-on-one and through the InCalf farmer action group programme with the aim of improving the reproductive performance of Northland dairy herds.

The project will provide rural professionals with the experience associated with the InCalf farmer action group programme with the view to them providing the network for delivery by 31 May 2013. This is the second year of the project.

Expected outcomes of this project

Achievement of a critical mass of trained InCalf providers in Northland	Increased capability amongst rural professionals in Northland who will be able to use InCalf in their business. This will lead to more consistent messages on farm
Incorporating the InCalf programme into the Northland region extension plan	Utilising existing extension networks to promote the programme and increase farmer demand
Adaptation of the Farmer Action Group (FAG) model to Northland	Using FAG to showcase on-farm progress as a motivation for other farmers
Improved 6-week in-calf rate and reduced empty rate in Northland herds	Increase in milk production, decreased wastage of young animals and reduction in animal health costs on farm
Build a relationship with the Rural Professionals with the view to developing strategic partners for delivery of InCalf and industry tools	Improvement of fertility through a better adoption network
