Mastitis?

Clinical mastitis shows VISIBLE changes in the:

  • First foremilk
  • Milk
  • Udder
  • Cow

The pictures below show typical signs of clinical mastitis.

Clinical cases of mastitis generally require treatment with lactating cow antibiotics.

 

 


Healthy udders should be the main goal for all herds

Tip:

A case of clinical mastitis that requires treatment has one or both of these:

  • heat, swelling or pain in the udder,
  • changes in the milk (wateriness or clots) that persist for more than three squirts of milk.

Some examples of signs of clinical mastitis:

Clots of milk stripped into:

The floor (least prefered method)
Paint tray, sprayed with black paint
Black piece of plastic
