Sustainable Dairying: Water Accord

A new set of national good management practice benchmarks aimed at lifting environmental performance on dairy farms has been agreed between DairyNZ and dairy companies, with the support and input from a wide range of industry stakeholders including Federated Farmers.

This Water Accord is a new, broader and more comprehensive commitment than the previous Clean Streams Accord that ended in 2012. It includes commitments to targeted riparian planting plans, effluent management, comprehensive standards for new dairy farms and measures to improve the efficiency of water and nutrient use on farms.

On Farm Innovation Fund brochure

Helping turn great ideas into great on-farm practice.

Through the On-Farm Innovation Fund (OFIF) DairyNZ is seeking out these new ideas and approaches to dairy farming and supporting their development to ensure these improvements are available to all
New Zealand dairy farmers.

In September 2001 Parliament enacted the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act 2001. That legislation paved the way for the de-regulation of the dairy industry and ultimately the creation of Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited by the merger of the two biggest dairy companies and the New Zealand Dairy Board.

Specific provision was made in that Act to ensure the New Zealand Dairy Core Database was retained by LIC, previously a subsidiary of the New Zealand Dairy Board.
