Dairy NZ

Gap Year travel and adventure appeals to many young people. Provision of the Gap Year Scholarship is aimed at attracting and recruiting those talented young people who want to experience an overseas adventure before they commence their tertiary studies and careers.

Our scholarship is designed to allow selected students the opportunity to have the ‘best of both’ worlds by experiencing an overseas adventure and then incentivising them to return to New Zealand to continue their studies and to get involved in the dairy industry.

Selection Process

• Applications are reviewed by DairyNZ and CAEP NZ.
• A short list of applicants will be drawn up after the initial review process is completed
• Short-listed applicants will be interviewed by DairyNZ and CAEP NZ representatives, either face-to-face or by video-conferencing, whichever method is most appropriate and suitable
• These interviews will take place late November - early December each year
• Successful applicants will then be placed for their Gap Year by CAEP NZ on one of their overseas agricultural programmes. CAEP NZ will guide the applicant through the application process for the programme, and assist with visa procedures, travel arrangements etc.

Funding

• Recipients of the DairyNZ Gap Year Scholarship will be funded $5750 (inclusive GST) in two equal payments for the Gap Year experience
• The first payment of $2875 will be made by DairyNZ once the recipients are placed in their country of choice (March–May)
• The balance of $2875 will be paid by DairyNZ on completion of the Gap Year, the recipients have returned to New Zealand (October-December) and have made arrangements to enrol at either Lincoln or Massey Universities where, if eligible, they can take up DairyNZ Scholarships for the next academic year.
