Farm Dairy Effluent Spreading Calculator app

The DairyNZ Farm Dairy Effluent Spreading Calculator app (available for iOS and Android) allows farmers to easily calculate nutrient loadings and application rates for their dairy effluent based on a number of customisable inputs. This app means that farmers can manage the application of their effluent nutrients with greater precision.

There are two calculators in this app, the Quick Calculator which is for spray irrigation systems such as travelling irrigators & sprinklers, and an Advanced Calculator which is for slurry tankers and muck spreaders.

A Farmer's Guide To Managing Farm Dairy Effluent

A good practice guide to land application, for farm owners, sharemilkers, farm managers and effluent professionals. The guide incorporates all of the latest research including the soil classification matrix and solids separation; as well as new tools such as the Dairy Effluent Storage Calculator, and the FDE Spreading Calculator.

The guide introduces topics previously not covered by the older regional guides, such as managing staff and contractors, and health and safety around the effluent system; as well as linking readers to other resources.

Compliance requirements for each region can now be found in the Compliance Checklists. Some of the more recently published regional guides will remain available for order while stocks last.

DairyNZ Farm Dairy Effluent (FDE) Spreading CalculatorUse to calculate the nutrient loading applied when spreading effluent solids or slurries to land. This can be used by farmers and effluent spreading contractors showing details such as the required spreading area and travelling speeds to achieve the desired application of nutrients. It is very simple to use with only three steps required.

The information generated from this calculator can be recorded in the Effluent Spreading Contractor's Communication Form, and given to staff or contractors spreading effluent to land.

Effluent spreading contractor communications form

To help reduce communication breakdowns between farmers and effluent spreading contractors, a form has been added to the DairyNZ Compliance Toolkit. The online printable form records information such as the pond liner type, hazards present, areas to avoid applying effluent to, which paddocks/areas to apply the solids and the depths or rates to apply the solids at.
