Animals: SmartSAMM

SmartSAMM is developing new tools and resources to help minimise mastitis on-farm and improve returns to the industry.

SmartSAMM builds on the success and simplicity of the well-known SAMM Plan by updating the approach using new techniques, information systems and insights from within New Zealand and around the world.

At the core is a framework to enable farmers to:

  • Assess their herds udder health status against industry benchmarks
  • Identify the gap in performance and potential for improvement
  • Explore options to achieve improvements
  • Select and implement the most appropriate options for their herd
  • Review progress towards goals.
