Getting Into Dairying

The aim of this project is to promote the dairy industry to New Zealand youth in order to:

Attract them to participate in the industry either:

On farm, or
In the service/support sector, e.g. science or agribusiness

Sensitise them to the industry as future decision makers

The project aims to assist the dairy industry to recruit a more assured supply of talented people into the dairy industry as farm managers, scientists, research technicians and rural professionals.

Expected outcomes of this project

Benefit

Good quality people are attracted to on-farm or near-farm careers through the Get Ahead programme, thus lifting the productive potential of the industry.

Graduates from the DairyNZ Scholarship programme will contribute to lifting the skill level of the Dairy farm management, rural professional and agriscience workforce and assist the industry to achieve an increase in farm productivity.

Future decision makers are exposed to the agricultural industry and gain an appreciation of the contribution it makes to the country’s economy. They are more able to engage in intelligent discussion around the future of the industry in NZ.

A collaborative approach with Beef + Lamb NZ will assist to leverage funds and to further extend the reach of the promotional programme.
