Organic/Conventional Dairy Systems TrialThe long-term aim of this research has been to attempt to better understand organic dairy farming systems by investigating component interactions in these systems, and by determining how impacts and interactions change over time as organic systems mature, through the establishment and maintenance of two comparative farmlets, one managed organically (and certified) and the other managed conventionally. |
Expected outcomes of this project
Benefit
Add to existing anecdotal information some robust scientific observation and interpretation that they can use to better understand the physical and financial costs and benefits of introducing organic farming practices in their farms.
Understand, through sound monitoring and interpretation, alternative management practices to conventional dairying and their impact on animal health and the environment.
For organic dairy farmers to understand their systems better so they can identify opportunities to improve performance.
For conventional farmers to have opportunities to adopt practices used by organic farmers to improve farm productivity.
