Investment: Milking efficiency

Labour productivity through efficient milk harvesting

This project aims to determine the most efficient milking methods and systems for future farms, taking account of labour input, capital cost and milk quality.

Expected outcomes of this project

Benefit
Greater labour efficiency, lower costs and improved overall productivity as a result of guidance on milk harvesting equipment and practices that minimise capital cost and labour input and maximise throughput and milk quality.
Improved milking efficiency leading to a reduction in the energy required to harvest the industries raw milk resulting in lower power costs.
Quantifiable data from which to base industry research needs and extension focus leading to a blueprint for technology use and milking practices on farms.
