PGP2 Train the Trainer- Effluent Management

The aim of this project is to reduce rates of significant non-compliance around New Zealand by:

  1. Increasing the skill level of the effluent industry servicing dairy farms through implementation of the recently released code of practice. This will be achieved by the delivery of training courses with Massey University and an accreditation programme for companies to commence late 2011
  2. Increasing on-farm awareness and knowledge for effective effluent management in partnership with regional councils and milk companies
  3. To provide farmers and regional councils with an assurance scheme that will act as a driver for adoption of systems that can be compliant 365 days of the year.

Expected outcomes of this project

Benefit
Provide dairy farmers with greater assurance that companies they select for their effluent upgrades or conversions will provide a quality service.
Farmers will have greater resources available to them on effluent systems and expertise to draw on from DairyNZ and environmental officers within milk companies.
Reduce the level of significant non-compliance which will improve the image of the Dairy Industry.
