Improving Dairy Cattle Fertility

The aim of this project is to:

  • Benchmark current fertility of the New Zealand dairy industry
  • Assess the effect of implementing a planned fertility improvement programme (InCalf) in biophysical and social terms on 100 dairy farms across New Zealand
  • Define barriers to uptake of InCalf by herd-owners staff and rural professionals
  • Build capability in delivery of InCalf.
 

 

Expected outcomes of this project

Benefit

Quantify the return on investment to the dairy industry by the InCalf programme.

Improvements in InCalf material and delivery systems to ensure greater uptake of the programme and hence improved fertility nationally.
Provide accurate data to policy makers about current fertility and for incorporation into targets within InCalf.
