NMAC delivering SmartSAMM to NZ dairy farmers

The SmartSAMM project has three key aims:

  1. To develop new resources, tools and training to help farmers and rural professionals manage on-farm mastitis
  2. To foster collaboration between the different rural service provider groups responsible for mastitis control in New Zealand
  3. To help farmers improve milk quality by reducing the incidence of mastitis (sub-clinical and clinical) on New Zealand dairy farms.

Expected outcomes of this project

Benefit
Lower average bulk milk SCC will deliver increased milk production, at herd and dairy processor level.
Improved recording and reduction in incidence of clinical mastitis.
Improved profitability for farmers.
Improvement in average bulk milk SCC will provide greater flexibility for farms during adverse climatic times.
