Feed effects on Body Condition Score

Different feeds have different efficiencies associated with the conversion of contained energy to BCS gain. This project aims to validate the results for a trial conducted 2008-09, which determined the effect of commonly used supplements on body condition score change during the dry period.

Expected outcomes of this project

Benefit
Knowing the efficiency of converting commonly used supplements on BCS gain in non-lactating dairy cows will enable farmers to make a decision on the value proposition of the different feeds available and support extenstion messages relating to nutrition and supplements.
Less confusion among farmers and industry professionals on the impact of different feeds on BCS gain resulting from more consistent messages across all sources.
