Submission writing sessions for farmers on Plan Change 7
Environment Canterbury’s Plan Change 7 is open for submissions until 13 September.
The plan introduces new nutrient loss requirements for some farms as well as a number of other new requirements.
All farmers are required to meet baseline Good Management Practice by July 2020. Proposed nutrient loss targets beyond this vary within zones. By 2030, all dairy farmers in the Nitrate Priority Area will be required to reduce their nitrogen losses by 15% beyond baseline Good Management Practice. By 2040, all farmers in the Nitrate Priority Area will need to reduce their nitrogen loss by a further 15%. In some areas farmers will need to make additional reductions to their nitrogen losses over time.
We encourage farmers to make a submission on the plan change. Next Generation Farmers, DairyNZ and Federated Farmers are hosting free submission writing workshops where you can talk with technical experts and have access to scientific and economic information to help prepare your submission.
