Cloverdene farm is contract milked by Kyle and Jacqui for the Pye Group. The operation is located in the Hinds Catchment, and includes two milking platforms (216 ha and 220 ha) and a support block (49 ha) growing maize and kale. The farm achieves a good level of profit and has already achieved significant N loss reduction from the baseline period (+50% reduction for all blocks). Kyle and the team keep looking for options to improve efficiency and reduce footprint.
At this field day we will discuss:
- Strategies to farm under the 190 kg N/ha synthetic fertiliser cap. The farm has been reducing N fertiliser use and adjusting the system and will be reducing N use further.
- Changes to irrigation strategy that has seen the farm reduce drainage and improve water use efficiency.
It will be an interactive day with good supporting data and relevant expertise on the day to discuss these topics.
