The Manawaru/Wardville group's purpose is to discuss and analyse the host farmer's business, and make recommendations to help them achieve their stated goals. Members share and gain seasonal information that is relevant to their own productivity and financial management requirements.
The June group is visiting Dennis and Joy Wallace's farm on the edge of the Kaimai ranges 50/50 sharemilked by Scott and Melissa Holdem. Scott and Melissa have completed their first season on this farm and are hoping to increase pasture and crop harvest grown on farm from around 10 tDM/ha to 13 tDM/ha using the following tactics which we will discuss at discussion group:
Focus on pasture management to improve ryegrass tillering and ryegrass content in the pasture sward.
Pasture management to encourage increased clover presence and growth.
Application of insecticide to control clover attacking pests such as clover flea.
Protect our industry - please arrive with clean boots to reduce the risk of spreading a disease, pest or weed.
