For October the Manawaru/Wardville discussion group combines with Elstow/Springdale discussion group to discuss reducing post peak milk production decline.
Discussion will revolve around:
- Strategies to maintain pasture quality
- The composition of grass needed to maintain high levels of milk production-Dry matter content;
- crude protein
- soluble sugars
- metabolizable energy
- Milk Urea levels
- Topping before or after grazing
- Use of supplements or nitrogen to mitigate post peak production decline
DairyNZ principal scientist Dr Jane Kay will be present to provide technical and research information on this topic.
