Marlborough Discussion Group and Drought Meeting - February

This great discussion group has some interesting topics lined up with a OAD focus too.

After several years of dry stock farming in the region, Peter, Sharon and son Ben have purchased their first dairy farm near Canvastown and made the decision to milk OAD all season. They are milking 250 crossbred cows on the 83 effective hectares of which 60 ha is irrigated.

New farm, new cows! They are keen for you to attend to discuss:

  • The season so far, what have been the challenges and learnings?
  • The current mating policy and what mating period they should aim to have in future.
  • What should this business look like in 4 years' time? - the Yield per cow, Wintering system, Replacement rate etc.
  • This is sure to be a great discussion so bring the team.

We will start with a local drought planning session and break for lunch at 12 before continuing the discussion and farm inspection.

Lunch kindly provided by ANZ.
