For those who are new to dairy or needing a refresh and those seasoned veterans looking to gain a new idea or tip for this year’s calving.
We will be running a combined session, along with two dual sessions at our CalvingSmart workshops this year:
Home by 5
This will be a joint session for staff and managers to talk about the tips and tricks they use to make sure the cowshed lights are switched off and everyone is home by 5pm. Come and hear ideas on how you can do things a bit differently, and bring your tips to share with others!
This is a session we will be running for managers looking at feeding the dairy cow from planned start of calving to balance date.
We will do a feed flow budget to look at feed demand and supply and the impact of average cover.
For those new to Dairy/need a refresh:
The sessions are designed for new entrants with 0-3 years of experience and are interactive, practical and in person.
Topics will include:
- What does a normal calving look and feel like?
- Checking for signs a cow is going to calve
- When to give a helping hand and when to call for help
The cow and its calf
- Working with cows and calves
- The trip to the calf shed
- Looking after newborn
Registration, tea & coffee from 9.45am for a prompt 10am start.
