It allows farmers to make more informed, confident and profitable decisions when choosing ryegrass cultivars for their pasture renewal programme.
The Index is based on independently calculated Economic Values (EV) and Performance Values (PV) for seasonal dry matter production. Each cultivar has an associated star rating to represent its rank in the Forage Value Index.
Select the ryegrass best suited to your region and farming system with the Cultivar Selector. This tool uses data from the Forage Value Index (FVI).
A Performance Value (PV) is the total increase or decrease in dry matter production over a period relative to the genetic base.
In the FVI selector tool, seasonal PV values are available for each cultivar. This is a 1 to 5 ranking. A ranking of 5 means the cultivar is in highest performance group for the given region.
An economic value (EV) is the effect on profit ($/ha) of a 1-unit change of a trait.
The EV makes up the Forage Value Index Rating, this is the star rating in the FVI cultivar selector tool.
