The DairyNZ team spoke to hundreds of people who had never been on a farm before who were excited to have a quintessential kiwi experience.
DairyNZ’s education ambassador, Rosie the cow, proved a hit with children (and adults!) with people flocking to get a hug and photo with her.
Patting the calves also provided an element of excitement for visitors, as did the chance to sit in the cab of a milk tanker and have a tour through the rotary milking shed while the cows were being milked.
Half hourly tours to the wetland provided the opportunity to teach visitors about how farmers are protecting the environment and the benefits of planting on-farm.
With the sun out in full force, the free ice creams from Fonterra went down a treat.
The free event was held at Owl Farm, a demonstration farm joint venture between St Peter’s School in Cambridge and Lincoln University. DairyNZ is a supporting partner of Owl Farm.
