Julian, who has a wealth of farming experience, is looking forward to sharing that with others and getting to know the dairy farmers in his area. He is one of four DairyNZ consulting officers in the Bay of Plenty and will cover Eastern Bay of Plenty including Whakatane and Opotiki.
Through discussion group activity and events, consulting officers facilitate the sharing of farmer knowledge and take information, generated by the DairyNZ research and development teams, out to farmers.
Julian is excited about the role.
“I am looking forward to working with farmers as they face their own challenges and opportunities,” says Julian.
Julian’s farming experience has taken him around the country and exposed him to a variety of farming systems. “I had a good farmer as a role model who told me the best thing I could do, if you didn’t want to go to university straight away, is to farm different soil types nationwide – so that’s what I did.”
Julian has farmed in Kaitaia, Thames, Pukehohe, Palmerston North and King Country over the past eight years and before coming to DairyNZ was an agriculture tutor.
He is now topping all that off by studying towards an Agriculture Science degree at Massey University to add to his Primary ITO qualifications.
