Towards the end of 2013 WorkSafe NZ extended its focus from the on-going quad bike safety campaign to include other vehicles used on farms.
Their Southland focus will include an increased number of workplace inspections on farms within the region with their workplace inspectors paying particular attention to:
- Vehicle maintenance;
- User experience and training;
- Vehicle use; and
- Machine and PTO guarding.
During this time their sector engagement team will also be visiting Southland to talk with sector stakeholders and understand any specific challenges and opportunities relating to improving vehicle safety on farms within the region.
The likelihood that farmers will receive a visit from a WorkSafe NZ inspector is increased over the next two months.
