Degree: Bachelor of Commerce (Agriculture)
Growing up I enjoyed working on the neighbour’s dairy farm helping with jobs such as ear tagging, weighing and relief milking. At school I was lucky to have a good agriculture department which nurtured my interest in the agricultural sector and encouraged me to pursue a career in it. This, plus my own outdoor interests, influenced my decision to do an agricultural commerce degree at Lincoln University.
Having worked on dairy farms in the past, but especially my involvement in the DairyNZ scholarship programme has shown me the huge opportunities available within the dairy industry. It has been particularly useful for exposing me to a wide range of people involved in the industry, both farmers and rural professionals. These contacts have been more than willing to show me what they do on a day to day basis and what potential pathways there are for graduates. I remain undecided as to my future career path, with both on and off-farm careers appealing to me at this stage.
