School: New Plymouth Boys’ High School
Tertiary: Massey University, Year 3, 2021
Degree: Bachelor of AgriCommerce (Agricultural Economics)
My interest in economics and agriculture started when I started agribusiness at high school. Following that I attended a DairyNZ-hosted agri-careers day where I spoke with people about their career paths. These conversations were valuable and gave me a broader understanding of different career opportunities.
I began my studies at Massey University with almost zero experience within the dairy sector but was aware of the many opportunities it possessed. Throughout my studies I have worked a full season, both part-time and full-time, on conventional and organic dairy farms as well as a summer internship working with R&D team at PGG Wrightson Seeds.
The scholarship has provided some great opportunities during my studies. The mentorship during my first year helped me integrate into university and provided a great networking environment.
My ambitions are focused on using my agricultural economics knowledge to find positive solutions to the dairy sector’s environmental and economic challenges. I hope to work specifically on policies and research that will positively impact on the environment, the wellbeing of farmers and our communities.
