Growing up in the dairy sector has inspired me to become self-employed within dairying. I want to develop a business that operates with a strong understanding of how the ecosystems we farm within operate and holistically manage resources to maximise productivity.
At Lincoln University I’ve developed a passion for soils and desire more in-depth learning about the soil environment side of management, especially in relation to crop management practices to optimise soil structure and fertility for plant growth. Most importantly, I interested in utilising soil management to offset environmental impacts.
I plan to immerse myself in the vast wealth of knowledge available within the dairy sector, especially through DairyNZ discussion groups. I can use these groups being an excellent resource to talk to pioneers in the sector and explore new ideas and innovations developing within the dairy sector.
At Lincoln I am studying a Bachelor of Agriculture to enhance and grow my knowledge with not only the goal to stimulate and broaden my thinking, but grow and develop existing skills and, importantly, create a strong network of contacts in the agricultural and supporting sectors.
I plan to give back to the community, I am involved in a volunteer club offering help to farmers in stressful times; I have really enjoyed these opportunities to meet and help others. As a family, while rearing calves as kids, we always put a few aside for a good cause such as IHC. I would really like to further my involvement in the community in the foreseeable future and continue my family business’s people and community values.
