School: Cambridge High School
University: Massey University, 2016-2018
Degree: Bachelor of AgriScience, Majoring in Agriculture
Current employment: Agribusiness Graduate, Fonterra Farm Source
Job description: The Farm Source Agribusiness Graduate programme has a two-year duration. The programme is preparing me for a rural professional role within Fonterra. I am in my first rotation of 9-12 months in the Service Team. I am part of the inbound team providing supplier support by taking calls from farmers in New Zealand and Australia. These calls give me insight into what every farmer experiences through the season. The graduate programme provides training through farmer interaction and gathering knowledge of all business avenues.
DairyNZ scholarship benefits: The DairyNZ scholarship provided more than advice and financial support. I've had many opportunities to meet like-minded people and build a network of contacts through meeting sector leaders. The mentorship and help with transitioning into the workforce was invaluable.
Future plans: As the sector is so fast paced, knowing where I will be in five years is quite hard. I am eager to work within an environmental, sustainability or agronomy space. In the short-term I aim to make the most of the opportunity I am in by helping farmers to achieve their environmental and production goals, and building skills and knowledge of Fonterra to gain trust and rapport with farmers. In the mid-term, I aim to be more involved with the farmer facing aspects of the business. In the long-term I want to be back on farm after purchasing my own farm, or sharemilking and being involved in the hands-on side of farming and using my skills to positively represent the dairy sector.
