School: Southland Girls' High School
Tertiary: Lincoln University, 2015-2018
Degree: Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours)
Current employment: BNZ Agri Graduate
Job description: The BNZ graduate programme sees me work alongside an Agri Partner in which I shadow them in their day-to-day roles. Learning on the job and being immersed in customer interactions will give me a good grounding before I go into a permanent role. I have a great support network around me including recent graduates who can relate to what I am experiencing on the graduate programme.
DairyNZ scholarship benefits: The scholarship has so much more value than just the monetary component. The scholarship workshops provide skills and knowledge that have helped me immensely moving on to outside the scholarship and university. The exposure and opportunity to meet a number of influential industry leaders as well as people from industry supporting roles e.g. banks, fertiliser reps etc. has been invaluable. The relationships and networks created with other recipients of the scholarship also provide other connections outside of the scholarship.
Having Susan Stokes, DairyNZ's Education Facilitator, there as a mentor through university I will always be appreciative of and I cannot thank Susan and DairyNZ enough for this.
Future plans: My plan for the foreseeable future is to learn as much as I can whilst in the Agri Graduate role at BNZ with the goal of moving into a Partners role within the Agribusiness team. I also want get involved in discussion groups and programmes that are hands-on in the agricultural sector that help farmers and enhance my dairy sector knowledge.
