Training Institute: Dairy Training Limited
Qualification: National Diploma of Agribusiness Management
Background: Lisa and partner Dave are career changers who entered the dairy industry six years ago from the Police force.
With a degree in marketing and management, diploma in policing and a wealth of work experience, Lisa realised that it was important to get an understanding of agribusiness so that their farming businesses would thrive and they could progress in the industry and create enough wealth to support their five children and their future retirement.
Winning the Waikato Regional Merit Award for Human Resources in the New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards Share Farmer of the Year, 2016, was a definite highlight for Lisa and Dave.
Reason / Benefits of completing National Diploma of Agribusiness Management:
“Completing the papers in the diploma has assisted me personally in my administration (of the business). Treating people fairly and having a financially viable business is vital to us.”
Lisa is more confident in her dealings with rural professionals such as farm consultants, accountants and rural bankers because of her diploma studies.
“The diploma studies have also assisted us in understanding what it is we want from our investments - short and long term, and not negating an opportunity elsewhere. We can take a bigger picture view with confidence and understanding.”
While the current economic climate is not conducive to making the step into equity/farm ownership now, Lisa and Dave are staying in the industry for the long term.
“We are building our equity and experience, so that when the time is right we will be able to expand our business into some form of ownership in the future. While we wait, we continue to expand other investment opportunities, while ensuring they are in line with our long term goals”.
