Training Institute: Dairy Training Limited
Qualification: National Diploma of Agribusiness Management
Background: Michelle is a 50/50 sharemilker in partnership with her husband Shaun. They currently milk 400 Jersey cows and are focused on their herd improvement and breeding.
They have had success breeding bulls for the dairy industry with two bulls marketed as LIC Premier Sires this year.
Michelle also works for LIC as a National Solutions Manager, managing marketing for the genetics and diagnostics portfolios, company events and sponsorship.
She started the diploma two years ago and is close to completing her course.
Reason / Benefits of completing National Diploma of Agribusiness Management:
Michelle wanted to further develop her practical skills to effectively manage their farming business. It is a decision that has paid off.
“Already the papers I’ve completed have given me the confidence to put plans and budgets in place to manage through the current low payout.”
With this increased confidence Michelle is now looking at investment and growth opportunities for their business.
Entering the Dairy Industry Awards for the first time this year, she found that the diploma studies came in handy for the competition, especially the finance, planning and environment sections.
“The diploma gave me extra skills to enter the dairy awards.”
Michelle is driven by both her business and personal goals.
“We want to own our own farm and having that as a longer term goal is a great motivator. As far as personal goals I want to complete my diploma in the next 12 months and then apply for the Escalator Leadership Programme. I’m passionate about seeing more women in leadership roles within the industry, and it’s something I aspire to myself.”
She firmly believes that the dairy industry is a rewarding one to be part of, with great opportunities and the potential for motivated people to progress and build successful careers and businesses.
