School: Whangarei Girls' High School
University: Massey University, Year 2, 2021
Degree: Bachelor of Agricultural Science
I have been fortunate to have a rural upbringing with lakes and streams to swim in, paddocks and bush to explore, and calf club days at school. The hours I spent feeding, training and eventually showing my calves have been some of my favourite memories which have also taught me many important life skills.
I have been lucky enough to have a job with a neighbouring dairy farmer where I’ve milked during the weekends and helped feed his calves. Under my neighbour’s guidance, I have learnt to love the land, respect animals, and care for the environment. During my final two years at high school I took agricultural and horticultural science (this year by distance learning). This has become my favourite subject and confirmed my desire to pursue a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Massey University.
While I am aware that my university studies may open many career opportunities, I know my future career will be linked to the dairy farming sector.
