School: Morrinsville College
Tertiary: Lincoln University, Year 3, 2021
Degree: Bachelor of Agricultural Science
Although I haven’t grown up on a dairy farm, I’ve taken every opportunity to work on dairy farms through my extended family.
I love being outdoors working with animals and people. At school I took agricultural science and in my final year I attended different events including a Get Ahead experience day, the Rabobank Agri Leadership Programme, and the DairyNZ Career Day. These events helped confirm my decision to study a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Lincoln University.
At the DairyNZ Careers Day I became extremely interested in the science and research on the DairyNZ research farms. Before the DairyNZ Careers Day, I had no idea these research trials were being carried out or about the dairy science career pathway.
The role of a science technician or research scientist has become an aspiration and possible career pathway I would like to pursue once I have completed my studies.
The DairyNZ scholarship has and continues to provide me with countless networking opportunities which have given me knowledge and experience in areas of the Dairy industry where I wouldn’t have had experience from without the programme, especially coming from an urban background. The programme has also provided me with mentoring both from DairyNZ mentors and other scholarship recipients, helping me throughout my university journey immensely. I have also gained a casual job with DairyNZ as a Research Technician Assistant which has opened up a possible career pathway for me in the future.
