Growing up on my family’s dairy farm in the Waikato, I always loved being in the outdoors and therefore wanted a career in the dairy sector. Working on a farm sparked my interest in the relationships between the natural environment and the effects the dairy farming sector has on it.
One of the most important aspects that the DairyNZ Scholarship has offered me is the mentoring and the networking components. The mentoring programme really helped me get through my first year of university with the extra support and knowledge through my peers who had been in my position and courses before which really helped me to succeed. The networking evenings are also crucial as it helps me to meet with people all throughout the dairy industry, and create important connections for the future that I otherwise wouldn’t have made.
