Research: The project will involve analyses of four case study farms in Taranaki that implement various management strategies for bobby calves. I will research and evaluate different opportunities for these calves through designed mating programs, and identify the risks involved with in these different options. This will include evaluating the impact to the farm system and to quantify the opportunity, resources, and demand for these to be delivered at national level through economical modelling.
Future plans: My future is to continue to work with in the dairy industry. For me, this will either be in on-farm management or working within the industry specifically in animal welfare or consumers insights, product life cycles, and industry branding. Ultimately my heart is on farm and my head is in business and the aim is to be in a role where I can use both in way that helps the cows and the farmers. For now, I look forward for the opportunity to undertake my Master of Animal Science and to give back to New Zealand farmers through my research.
